Merced County town hall meetings
Merced County supervisors will be hosting a series of virtual town hall meetings in April and May.
Participants will have the opportunity to hear from their supervisor, meet department heads and staff, learn about county projects and ask questions.
District 5 Supervisor Lloyd Pareira, who represents the City of Gustine and portions of rural Gustine, will host a town hall Wednesday, April 7 at 6 p.m. Zoom registration is available at www.countyofmerced.com/D5th.
District 4 Supervisor Scott Silveira, who represents the Santa Nella area and portions of rural Gustine, will host a town hall Wednesday, April 21 at 6 p.m. Zoom registration is available at www.countyofmerced.com/D4th.

Saturday power outage
A bird in sub-station equipment was responsible for two Saturday morning power outages in the Newman area, a PG&E spokesman reported.
The outages occurred shortly at 10:33 a.m. A momentary outage affected 4,620 customers, according to the spokesman, while the second outage affected 1,450 customers and lasted until 11:51 a.m.
Newman Fire report
Personnel from the Newman Fire Department and West Stanislaus Fire Protection District Newman station responded to 30 calls for service from March 19-26. Fire Chief Keith Bowen said the responses included one smoke check, four motor vehicle collisions, one working structure fire, one vegetation fire, 18 medical aid calls and five public assists.

Newman resident Marge Carvalho, an observer for the National Weather Service, reported the following high/low temperatures for the past week. Readings for the previous 24-hour period are recorded at 5 p.m. daily.
