Fatal accident on Stuhr Road
A 20-year-old Stockton resident was killed in an accident on Stuhr Road west of Jorgensen Road Sunday night, March 7, the California Highway Patrol reported.
According to the CHP, the accident victim was driving a 2011 Ford Fusion westbound on Stuhr Road when for unknown reasons the vehicle left the roadway, collided with a dirt embankment and overturned. The CHP said the male driver was ejected into the eastbound traffic lane and was struck by an oncoming 2015 Hyundai Elantra driven by Cassandra Garcia, 50 of Newman. The CHP said the ejected motorist was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m.
Major injury in collision
A Downey resident sustained major injury in a collision involving a passenger car and a big rig early Saturday morning, March 6, on Interstate 5 south of Highway 140, the California Highway Patrol reported.
According to the CHP, the accident occurred when a 1989 Ford Mustang driven northbound on I-5 by Kyle Inzunza, 21, of Downey, collided with a northbound 2014 Kenworth driven by Francisco Garcia, 42, of Santa Maria, as Inzunza changed lanes.
The Ford left the roadway and rolled onto its roof and wheels down an embankment before coming to a stop, the CHP reported.
The CHP said Inzunza was transported by ground ambulance to Doctors Medical Center, Modesto, with injuries described as major.
Garcia was not injured.
The accident occurred shortly before 2 a.m.
Newman fire report
Personnel from the Newman Fire Department and West Stanislaus Fire Protection District responded to 19 calls for service from Feb. 26 through March 4.
Fire Chief Keith Bowen said calls for service included 16 medical aid responses, one working structure fire, one vehicle fire and one commercial fire alarm.
