NEWMAN - Two juveniles were arrested Dec. 4 on suspicion of robbing a local liquor store, police said. Authorities said the suspects are 13 and 14 years of age.
Police said officers were dispatched to JJ Liquors at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4. The clerk reported that she was stocking shelves when the two males entered the store wearing all black, including gloves and masks. The suspects both held pocket knives, pointed them at the cashier and demanded money, according to authorities.
After the clerk opened the cash register, one of the juveniles reached in and took money. The juveniles then left westbound on Fresno Street and had reportedly entered an alley between Main and P, according to police reports.
An officer searched the area but was unable to locate the suspects. Police subsequently identified the juveniles from prior contact when reviewing surveillance video and they were interviewed and taken into custody.
The stolen cash was recovered, police reported.
The juveniles, both of whom are from Newman, were booked into juvenile hall on felony robbery charges.
