NEWMAN - Orestimba High School’s leadership class is organizing a holiday light parade which will be part of the community’s tree-lighting festivities Saturday, Dec. 2.

Businesses, clubs and organizations are invited to participate in the event, which will roll through downtown Newman at 5:30 p.m.

Leadership teacher Renae Chance said the school was approached by event organizers with a request to sponsor a parade which incorporated the general community and local businesses.

“Our goal is to have as many people be involved as possible, and to just celebrate community and have everybody together,” she explained. “We’re also asking local farms and dairies to participate. Hopefully we have some representation from our farming community.”

Participants can walk the parade route, ride in a vehicle or create a holiday float.

“We ask that all entries creatively light themselves with holiday lights or glow sticks,” Chance added. “It is at night, and it is a holiday parade.”

Those interested in participating are asked to email Chance at no later than Friday, Nov. 24. All entries must include the name of the club, organization or business and a description of the entry (vehicle, float pulled by vehicle, people walking, etc.).

Emails should include a point of contact and contact information.
