A Gustine man suffered major injuries in a single-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol reported. According to the CHP, Mario Garcia, 37, of Gustine, was driving a 2001 Ford Mustang southbound on Highway 33 south of Pfitzer Road when he lost control for unknown reasons after passing several vehicles at a high rate of speed. The CHP said the vehicle left the roadway and struck several almond trees. Garcia was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, according to authorities. The CHP said Garcia was transported to Memorial Medical Center, Modesto, with major injuries. The accident occurred shortly before 5 p.m.
