NEWMAN - The body of a Turlock man was recovered from the Delta-Mendota Canal Monday morning, authorities said.
The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased at 72-year-old Larry Dinwiddie.
The coroner’s office said Tuesday that results of an autopsy were pending, but that Dinwiddie had apparently been fishing along the canal and for unknown reasons wound up in the water.
West Stanislaus Fire Protection District Division Chief Jeff Breasher said authorities were notified at 7:30 p.m. by an agricultural worker who spotted the man in the water.
Breasher said the body was recovered from the canal between Stuhr and Fink roads by West Stanislaus personnel.
He said a vehicle and fishing equipment were found about a mile north of where the body was found.
