Vandalism

Police said the front door of a home in the 1200 block of Barrington was damaged in an incident reported June 24. Police said the homeowner was awakened by two loud bangs which he reported sounded like gunshots. Police said the frame was damaged and the door pushed open in the incident, but a check of the residence found no intruders inside and nothing missing. The damage was estimated at $100.

Police said a mirror on a vehicle in the 700 block of Bennett Valley Court was vandalized in an incident reported June 24. The damage was estimated at $250.

Burglary

Police said a vacant building in the 1600 block of Main Street was burglarized and vandalized in an incident reported June 27. Police said a number of items with scrap metal value only were taken from the former hatchery facility. No damage estimate was listed.

Arrests

The following were among arrests reported by Newman police from June 24-30. The arrest report includes incidents in which an individual was released on citation as well as cases in which a suspect was booked.

Juan E. Rivera Vega, 29, of Newman, was arrested June 24 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a license suspended or revoked for DUI.

Maria E. Soto, 49, of Newman, was arrested June 24 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended or revoked license.

Aldo A. Lara, 38, of Newman, was arrested June 25 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Sharron J. Young, 40, of Newman, was arrested June 26 on a misdemeanor drug possession charge and a felony warrant out of Fresno Superior Court.

Herbie Herrera Jr., 35, of Newman, was arrested June 26 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a license suspended or revoked for DUI.

Jennifer N. Gebhart, 40, of Newman, was arrested June 26 on misdemeanor charges of drug possession and driving on a license suspended or revoked for DUI.

Aldo A. Lara, 38, of Newman, was arrested June 27 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Rigoberto Cornejo, 40, of Newman, was arrested June 29 on misdemeanor charges of drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Activity report

Newman police received 88 calls for service, reported 72 officer-initiated incidents, handled 24 cases, made 11 arrests, wrote 15 traffic citations, issued five parking tickets and wrote four animal-related citations from June 24-30, according to the department’s activity report.

Weekly arrest and incident reports are provided by the Newman and Gustine police departments. Charges may have been dropped as of press time. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty.
