Flames raced across acres of dry vegetation Friday afternoon after a fire broke out in an unused sewer pond near the Gustine Municipal Airport. The fire was southeast of Highway 140 with a near cross road of Old Santa Fe Grade.  The cause of the fire is undetermined, said Gustine Fire Chief Pat Borrelli. There were no injuries reported from the blaze. The flames charred a total of 36 acres before it was contained. A total of three fire engines and two water tenders were used to fight the fire. Firefighters were able to keep the flames from threatening any structures in the area. The sewer pond was dried up and had dead vegetation surrounding it when the fire started.
