Larceny

A Glock 22 handgun and box with new seat covers were reported stolen May 13 from an unlocked vehicle in the 800 block of Highway 33, Newman police reported. The loss was estimated at $760.

Vehicle recovered

Newman police said a 2003 Ford F250 reported stolen out of Modesto on May 9 was recovered May 11 in the 1100 block of Lee Avenue. The truck had been parked at that location since Friday, May 8, according to the party reporting the suspicious vehicle.

Arrest in larceny

Newman police said Jesus M. Sodia Jr., 36, of Newman, was arrested May 17 on a misdemeanor charge of petty theft during a state of emergency. According to police reports, a patrol officer saw Sodia standing near a pickup parked in a driveway in the 900 block of Inyo Avenue. The officer made contact with Sodia as he was carrying a box with a child’s canopy bed set, which the owner advised police had been left in the bed of the pickup truck. Sodia was cited and released.

Arrests

The following were among additional arrests reported by Newman police from May 11-17. The arrest report includes incidents in which an individual was released on citation as well as cases in which a suspect was booked.

Monica M. Silva, 27, of Newman, was arrested May 11 on a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jesus M. Sodia Jr., 36, of Newman, was arrested May 11 on a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Nathan Powell, 36, of Newman, was arrested May 11 on a misdemeanor public nuisance charge.

Daniel A. DeBartolo, 71, of Newman, was arrested May 11 on a misdemeanor charge of panhandling.

Doyle L. Roberts, 47, of Crows Landing was arrested May 11 on a felony bench warrant out of Kings County Superior Court.

Sonja A. Brown, 30, of Turlock, was arrested May 12 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended or revoked license.

Juancarlos Torres, 26, of Lodi, was arrested May 14 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Dennis J. Candela, 44, of Stevinson, was arrested May 16 on misdemeanor charges of displaying a fake vehicle registration and driving on a suspended or revoked license.

David J. Garcia, 33, of Santa Nella, was arrested May 17 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Favian Monarrez, 21, of Newman, was arrested May 17 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Mercedes I. Torres, 30, of Newman, was arrested May 17 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Activity report

Newman police received 61 calls for service, reported 69 officer-initiated incidents, handled 22 cases, made 14 arrests, issued 14 traffic citations and wrote one parking ticket from May 11-17, according to the department’s activity report.

GUSTINE POLICE

Stolen vehicle

Gustine police said a 2012 Ford F-150 was reported stolen May 13 from the 100 block of Fifth Street. The vehicle had not been recovered as of Tuesday morning.

Arrests

The following were among arrests reported by Gustine police from May 12-18. The arrest report includes incidents in which an individual was released on citation, as well as cases in which a suspect was booked.

A 21-year-old Gustine male was arrested May 14 on a felony domestic violence charge.

David J. Castillo, 49, of Turlock, was arrested May 15 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Teresa L. Babb, 51, of Gustine was arrested May 15 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Juan C. Mendez, 38, of Santa Nella, was arrested May 15 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended license.

Activity report

Gustine police received 54 calls for service, reported 102 officer-initiated incidents, handled 14 cases, made four arrests and issued two traffic citations from May 12-18, according to the department’s activity report
