NEWMAN POLICE

Robbery

Newman police said a local convenience store was robbed at gunpoint Thursday, Jan. 14.

According to police reports, two males wearing face coverings entered the City Market in the 1000 block of Highway 33 shortly before 10 p.m. and demanded money. Police said one of the individuals had a gun in his hand and was pointing it at a store clerk behind the counter.

The clerk complied and gave the robbers money from the cash box.

The suspects left the store with the money and several boxes of cigars, leaving the scene northbound in a gray-colored vehicle.

The loss was estimated at $1,100, police said.

Arrests

The following were among arrests reported by Newman police from Jan. 12-17. The arrest report includes incidents which an individual was released on citation as well as cases in which a suspect was booked.

Christopher M. Franze, 33, of Newman, was arrested Jan. 12 on misdemeanor charges of driving on a suspended license, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and displaying false registration.

Rosemary Hernandez, 32, of Newman, was arrested Jan. 15 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a license suspended for DUI.

A 17-year-old Gustine juvenile was arrested Jan. 16 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Jesus Avila, 26, of Newman, was arrested Jan. 17 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Emmanuel Dunerway, 29, of Newman, was arrested Jan. 17 on misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Maria A. Chapa, 45, of Gustine was arrested Jan. 17 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Activity report

Newman police received 60 calls for service, reported 55 officer-initiated incidents, handled 11 cases, made seven arrests, wrote six traffic citations and issued four parking tickets from Jan. 12-17, according to the department’s activity report.

GUSTINE POLICE

Vandalism

Gustine police said a planter box was damaged in a hit-and-run incident reported Jan. 17 in the 1100 block of North Avenue. Police said the damage was estimated at $400.

Vehicle burglary

Authorities said miscellaneous paperwork was reported stolen Jan. 17 from a vehicle in the 1600 block of Fentem Road.

Arrests

The following were among arrests reported by Gustine police from Jan. 11-18. The arrest report includes incidents in which an individual was released on citation as well as cases in which a suspect was booked.

Matthew Souza, 18, of Gustine, was arrested Jan. 11 on a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving.

Pedro Garcia Medina, 28, of Gustine, was arrested Jan. 15 on a misdemeanor DUI charge.

Oscar R. Moya, 23, of Gustine, was arrested Jan. 16 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Baltazar Hernandez Castro, 27, of Gustine, was arrested Jan. 17 on misdemeanor charges of DUI and driving without a license.

Zenaida Aguilar Rocha, 29, of Gustine, was arrested Jan. 18 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Jaime Diaz, 26, of Gustine, was arrested Jan. 18 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a license suspended for DUI.

Activity report

Gustine police received 54 calls for service, reported 94 officer-initiated incidents, handled 16 cases, made eight arrests and issued 15 traffic citations from Jan. 11-18, according to the department’s activity report.
