Liquor store robbery

Newman police said a robbery occurred in the early-morning hours of Thursday, July 23 at JJ Liquors.

According to police reports, a store employee was stocking shelves around 1:15 a.m. when a male adult entered the store, selected beer from a cooler and walked to the counter.

As the employee approached the cash register the suspect, who police said was holding one hand near his waistband as if he had a concealed weapon, told her to take all the money from the cash register and place it in a bag. The employee handed the robber money and he started to leave the store. Police said the employee began calling police but the suspect demanded the phone. The employee refused, and the suspect left the store.

Arrests

The following were among arrests reported by Newman police from July 20-26. The arrest report includes incidents in which an individual was released on citation as well as cases in which a suspect was booked.

Karla Preciado Lopez, 35, of Gustine, was arrested July 20 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

John M. Campos, 22, of Newman, was arrested July 21 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Jose H. Mendoza, 41, of Newman, was arrested July 22 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a license suspended for DUI.

Jesus M. Sodia, 36, of Newman, was arrested July 24 on three felony warrants out of Stanislaus County Superior Court.

Valerie Morais, 52, of Gustine, was arrested July 25 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended license.

Sebastian Estrada, 29, of Newman, was arrested July 25 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Brando A Moreno, 22, of San Jose was arrested July 25 on misdemeanor charges of drug possession and driving on a suspended license.

Raul Marin Gutierrez, 44, of Newman, was arrested July 26 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a license suspended for DUI.

Jimmy DeLaCruz, 32, of Newman, was arrested July 26 on a misdemeanor drug possession charge.

Luis M. Guzman-Perez, 39, of Newman, was arrested July 26 for misdemeanor DUI.

Activity report

Newman police received 83 calls for service, reported 48 officer-initiated incidents, handled 24 cases, made 13 arrests, issued six traffic tickets and wrote three parking citations from July 20-26, according to the department’s activity log.

GUSTINE POLICE

Tools taken

Gustine police said a container with tools and boots were reported stolen July 22 from a truck in the 1600 block of Via Colabria. The tools and boots were valued at $430.

Vehicles burglarized

Two vehicles in the 200 block of Via Palermo were burglarized in an incident reported July 26.

Police said sunglasses valued at $175 were reported stolen from one vehicle. Fishing gear valued at $670 was reported stolen from a second vehicle.

Vehicle theft

Authorities said a 1997 Honda Accord was reported stolen July 22 from the 300 block of Meredith Avenue. The vehicle had not been recovered as of Tuesday morning.

Ibis Reynoso, 39, of Compton, was arrested July 22 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Jonathan Ortiz Servin, 25, of Gustine, was arrested July 24 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended license.

Yolanda Vasquez, 39, of Gustine, was arrested July 25 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended license.

Emilio Contreras, 37, of Santa Nella, was arrested July 25 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Ethan J. Pinhiero, 29, of Gustine, was arrested July 26 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended license.

A 30-year-old Gustine male was arrested July 26 on a felony domestic violence charge.

Tasha M. Whitmire, 34, of Gustine, was arrested July 27 on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

A 17-year-old Newman juvenile was arrested July 27 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Juan Rodriguez, 26, of Newman, was arrested July 27 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Activity report

Gustine police received 64 calls for service, reported 88 officer-initiated incidents, handled 15 cases, made nine arrests, issued one traffic citation and wrote one parking ticket from July 21-27, according to the department’s activity report.
