Newman Police

Activity Report

The Newman Police Department responded to 32 calls for service and reported 54 officer initiated calls for a total of 86 incidents between Jan. 3 to Jan. 6. There were 12 cases opened and six arrests. The department issued 10 traffic citations, one criminal citation and 13 parking citations.

Auto burglary

Around 1:30 a.m. Jan. 5, a resident in the 700 block of Hagerman Peak was awoken to the sound of his vehicle alarm. He went outside and found that the front window on the passenger side had been broken out and several tools were stolen. The loss was estimated at $298. There is currently no suspect information.

Auto theft

A 2016 Honda Accord was stolen from the 1900 block of Leslie Avenue. The theft was discovered around 3:30 p.m. Jan. 5. The vehicle had been parked on the street, a few houses down from where the vehicle owner resides. The lone key was accounted for, according to the police report. The vehicle was located later by the Gustine Police Department. The Honda was damaged, but not stripped. The damage was estimated at $16,000.  There is no suspect information at this time.

Arrests

A 17-year-old Newman girl was arrested on Jan. 4 for being an unlicensed driver.

Hugo Fuentes, 35, of Newman was arrested on Jan. 4 for being an unlicensed driver.

Yordy Ramirez, 27, of Newman was arrested on Jan. 5 for being an unlicensed driver.

Oscar Negrete, 22, of Newman was arrested on Jan. 5 for driving on a suspended license.

Angela Rodriguez, 56, of Newman was arrested on Jan. 5 for public intoxication and obstructing a peace officer.

Bryan Jimenez, 24, of Gustine was arrested on Jan. 6 for a warrant.

GUSTINE POLICE

Activity Report

The Gustine Police Department received 26 calls for service and reported 35 officer initiated calls for a total of 61 incidents between Jan. 3 to Jan. 5. There were 10 cases opened and three arrests. The department issued eight traffic citations and two vehicles were towed.

DUI

Around 2:30 p.m. Jan. 3, the police department was notified of a solo vehicle collision on Jensen Road. A 1998 Toyota camry had crashed into a ditch. The reporting party said the driver, later identifed as Edgar M. Figueroa, appeared to be “extremely” intoxicated. The suspect was located and was charged with numerous criminal offenses, including DUI.

Theft

Around 6:30 p.m. Jan. 4, about five to six minors entered the store and stole several containers of alcohol. The minors left in a two-door white hatchback vehicle.

Arrests

Edgar Figueroa, 24, of Los Banos was arrested on Jan. 3 for misdemeanor driving under the influence, possession of an open container in a vehicle, giving false identity to a peace officer, receiving known stolen propeerty, obstruction, driving under the influence with a BAC of .08 or more, and a warrant.

Charlene Lee Hayslip, 41, of Gustine was arrested on Jan. 5 for three warrants.

Benedick Ouva Gonzalez, 30, of Gustine was arrested on Jan. 5 for carrying a loaded firearm, drug paraphernalia, speeding, and driving without a license.
