Newman Police

Activity Report

The Newman Police Department received 125 calls for service and reported 121 officer-initiated calls, for a total of 246 incidents from Aug. 30 to Sept. 5. Included in the calls were two reports of robberies, two for assaults and one reported larceny. There were 38 cases opened and 18 arrested made, including one for DUI. The department issued 19 traffic, 10 parking and six criminal citations. There was one municipal code infraction and three vehicles towed.

Theft

A resident in the 1200 block of Duckblind reported a package theft on Sept. 1. The resident stated the package taken was a Mima baby stroller. There were no suspects or leads and the case was closed.

Vandalism 

A resident in the 1900 block of Pine Court reported vandalism done to a 1998 Honda Accord on Sept. 5. The vandalism was reported at 2:42 p.m. Glass bottles had been thrown at the vehicle, causing a dent. there was also liquid sprayed across the windows and broken glass around the car. The department reported no suspects or leads and the case was closed.

DUI

A Ceres resident was arrested n Sept. 4 for suspicion of driving under the influence after he was seen driving erratically by a Newman police officer. The officer first spotted the driver, later identified as Enrique Serrano, 34, of Ceres, in the area of Highway 33 and Stuhr Road. Serrano was driving a Chevy Malibu and was having difficulty keeping it straight. At one point Serrano made a quick stop and the pulled off to the side of the road. he made a U-turn and started heading east on Stuhr Road, before again pulling over to the side of the road. Serrano and the passenger got out of the vehicle and were looking under the hood when they were approached by the officer. Serrano was evaluated for DUI and blew a .07 BAC. He was cited for misdemeanor DUI and being an unlicensed driver. He was released to a responsible adult.

Arrests

Viviana Sotelo, 25, of Newman was arrested on Aug. 30 for possession of a controlled substance and resisting a peace officer.

Nahoum Tewolde Berhane, 43, of Newman was arrested for trespassing and removing a shopping cart.

A 15-year-old male of Gustine was arrested on Aug. 30 for being an unlicensed driver.

Juan Carlos Lopez, 41, of Newman was arrested for a warrant out of Stanislaus County.

Janet Guillen Rodriguez, 21, of Newman was arrested for being an unlicensed driver.

A 38-year-old unnamed male resident of Newman was arrested on Aug. 31 for domestic violence, false imprisonment with violence, attempted kidnapping and a probation violation.

A 40-year-old unnamed male resident of Newman was arrested on Aug. 31 for domestic violence.

Gilbert Valentino Grijalva, 55, of Newman was arrested on Sept. 1 for a warrant out of Stanislaus County.

Richard Kevin White, 45, of Turlock was arrested on Sept. 1 for driving on a suspended license.

A 32-year-old female resident of Newman was arrested on Sept. 1 for child cruelty and parent contributing to chronic truancy.

Osvaldo Mendez Arroyo, 44, of Newman was arrested on Sept. 2 for a warrant out of Stanislaus County.

Daniel Christopher Bar, 26, of Newman was arrested on Sept. 2 for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A 44-year-old unnamed male resident of Newman was arrested on Sept. 3 for possession of child pornography and peeking into an inhabited dwelling.

Rigoberto Ildefonso, 37, of Richmond was arrested  on Sept. 4 for being an unlicensed driver.

Christopher Michael Quitquit, 37, of Modesto was arrested on Sept. 4 for being an unlicensed driver.

Enrique Gonzalez Serrano, 34, of Ceres was arrested on Sept. 4 for a DUI and being an unlicensed driver.

A 24-year-old unnamed female resident of Newman was arrested on Sept. 5 for domestic violence.

Favian Monarrez, 23, of Newman was arrested on Sept. 5 for evading a peace officer.

Gustine Police

Activity Report

The Gustine Police Department received 69 calls for service and reported 94 officer-initiated calls for a total of 163 incidents from Aug. 30 to Sept.5. There were 21 cases opened and 13 arrests. The department issued 13 traffic and four parking citations. There were two municipal code infractions and three vehicles towed.

Narcotics

A teenager was arrested on narcotic related charges after a tip came in that the teen was selling drugs at a Gustine park. Gustine Police Cpl. Martinez was informed by School Resource Officer Erickson of a student at Gustine High School advertising selling narcotics at a local park. Cpl. Martinez was familiar with the juvenile and around 3 p.m. Sept. 3, observed the suspect at the park in question. Cpl. Martinez detained the juvenile and during the investigation, the suspect became extremely uncooperative. With the assistance of SRO Erickson and Officer Perez, the suspect was detained and eventually marijuana and pills for sale were found in the teen’s possession. The juvenile was cited and released to the parents. 

Public intoxication

At 1:41 a.m. Sept. 5, Officer Gilstrap was dispatched to 190 2nd Street regarding a physical fight in progress. Officer Gilstrap arrived on scene and was able to separate all involved parties. Officer Gilstrap eventually placed Edwin Martinez under arrest for public intoxication and Martinez was later booked at the Merced County Jail. 

Arrests

Dulce Crystal Morfin-Magana, 27, of Gustine was arrested on Aug. 30 for a felony warrant.

Hector Ramon Baez, 32, of Los Banos was arrested on Aug. 30 for carrying a concealed dirk or dagger and other charges.

Tina Marie Lalisan, 50, of Gustine was arrested on Aug. 31 on confidential charges.

James Malcolm Harris, 52, of Gustine was arrested on Aug. 31 on confidential charges.

Longino Raymundo Velasquez-Vasquez, 33, of Gustine was arrested on Aug. 31 for exhibiting a deadly weapon, threatening a crime and other charges.

Carolina Rodriguez-Gutierrez, 28, of Gustine was arrested on Sept. 1 for cultivating marijuana more than six plants and cultivating marijuana indoors.

Steven Kristepher Buchner, 39, of Gustine was arrested on Sept. 1 for cultivating marijuana indoors, cultivating marijuana more than six plants, possession of animals not allowed in the city and possession of prohibited fireworks.

Meaghan Donnelley, 32, of Gustine was arrested on Sept. 1 for willful cruelty to a child.

Johnathan Mikel Milo, 28, of Gustine was arrested on Sept. 3 for obstructing a peace officer, possession of drug paraphernalia and a warrant.

Darcedalia Brenda Duran, 24, of Crows Landing was arrested on Sept. 3 for driving without a license.

Jade Eve Davis, 23, of Gustine was arrested on Sept. 4 for inflicting corporal injury on a co-inhabitant.

Jesus Arreola Saavedra, 38, of Gonzales was arrested on Sept. 4 for driving without a license, and speeding.

Edwin Sylvester Martinez, 33, of Gustine was arrested on Sept. 5 for battery and public intoxication.

Sabino Rosales, 53, of Los Banos was arrested on Sept. 5 for driving without a license.
