The Gustine Police Department received 74 calls for service and reported 80 officer-initiated calls for a total of 154 incidents between Oct. 5 to Oct. 11. There were 22 cases opened and eight arrests. The department issued seven trafficcitations, one parking citation and one citation for a municipal code infraction. Three vehicles were towed.
A resident in the area of Pointe Lourose and West avenues reported to the police department a suspicious person in the area on Oct. 11. The caller said a white adult man wearing all black with a construction type vest and a black hat, was walking around the area and asking people for their personal information and offering to sign them up for services, but declined to say what services. The caller believed the individual might be trying to scam people. A check of the area was conducted.
A resident on Grove Avenue contacted the police department to report trespassing after finding a woman sleeping in the backyard shortly before 5 p.m. Oct. 5. The trespasser was described as a an adult woman with dark hair and a tattoo on left ankle. She was wearing jean shorts and a black T-shirt and had a gray backpack. The suspect had left the backyard before officers arrived.
Charlene Lee Hayslip, 41, of Gustine was arrested on Oct. 6 for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and a bench warrant.
Nicole Marie Nordgreen, 40, of Gustine was arrested on Oct. 6 for a bench warrant.
Natasha Michel Munoz, 24, of Newman was arrested on Oct. 7 for driving with a license suspended for DUI, carrying a loaded handgun and not being the registered owner, and possession of marijuana for sale.
Rebecca Castillo, 48, of Gustine was arrested on Oct. 7 for a bench warrant.
Jose Manuel Chavez, 23, of Newman was arrested on Oct. 8 for a bench warrant.
Yadira Wendy Calzada, 25, of Gustine was arrested on Oct. 9 for a municipal code infraction of unreasonable noise.
A 17-year-old Santa Nella resident was arrested on Oct. 9 for driving without a license and driving at an unsafe speed for the prevailing conditions.
The Newman Police Department received 70 calls for service and reported 53 officer-initiated calls for a total of 123 incidents from Oct. 4 to Oct. 10. There were 19 cases opened and eight arrests made, which included two for DUI. The department issued 12 traffic citations, five criminal citations and seven parking citations. One vehicle was towed.
Around 10:30 p.m. Oct. 6, A Newman Police Officer was parked in the southwest corner of Highway 33 and Kern Street, when he heard the sound of screeching tires. The officer saw a white pickup truck quickly accelerate after trying to peel out on Main Strret. The officer drove onto Tulare Street and saw the truck peeling out again. The officer made a traffic stop and noticed signs of intoxication by the driver, identified as Matthew Bonnington, 20, of Newman. The signs included slurred speech and an odor of alcohol. A field sobriety test was conducted and Bonnington had a blood alcohol content of .17.
In the glove box of the truck, the officer located a half full bottle of whiskey. Bonnington was arrested and released with a citation to a responsible adult.
The police department took several reports of graffiti on Oct. 10. The sites included Upper Road, between Patchett Drive and Sandy Creek Drive; Fig Lane between Angelina Lane and Jensen Road; Sherman Parkway between N Street and Balsam Drive; the 1200 block of Kern Street; and the 200 block of Jensen Road.
Nathan Joseph Bento, 28, of Newman was arrested on Oct. 5 for driving without a license.
Ronny Paul Soares, 48, of Newman was arrested on Oct. 5 for a warrant.
A 16-year-old Newman resident was arrested on Oct. 6 for driving without a license.
Matthew Ikaika Bonnington, 20, of Newman was arrested for DUI, DUI of .08 or more and exhibition of speed.
Genaro Espinoza Duran, 51, of Gustine was arrested on Oct. 7 for DUI.
Rodolfo Marquez, 26, of Newman was arrested on Oct. 8 for being an unlicensed driver.
Jose Manuel Elizalde, 27, of Denair was arrested on Oct. 9 for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Jose Haracio Mendoza, 42, of Newman was arrested on Oct. 9 for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and a warrant.
