Arrests in school incident

Newman police said two 14-year-old males were arrested June 8 on felony charges of burglary stemming from an incident the prior day at Von Renner Elementary School.

According to police reports, an administrator inspecting the campus following an alarm call noticed a screen had been removed from a window, which was open. Nothing appears to have been taken, police said.

Surveillance recordings led to the arrest of the juveniles, police said.

Vandalism

Authorities said graffiti was reported June 8 on a sound wall along Canal School Road and June 13 on a trailer in the area of Canyon Creek and Upper Road. No damage estimates were available.

Arrests

The following were among additional arrests reported by Newman police from June 8-14. The arrest report includes incidents in which an individual was released on citation as well as cases in which a suspect was booked.

Derrick R. Varner, 29, of Modesto, was arrested June 11 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Joseph M. Tacherra, 31, of Gustine, was arrested June 12 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended license.

A 52-year-old Newman male was arrested June 12 on felony charges of domestic violence and resisting an officer.

A 15-year-old Newman male was arrested June 13 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Activity report

Newman police received 89 calls for service, reported 43 officer-initiated incidents, handled 21 cases, made six arrests, wrote three traffic citations and issued two animal control citations from June 8-14, according to the department’s activity report.

Arrests

The following were among arrests reported by Gustine police from June 9-15. The arrest report includes incidents in which an individual was released on citation as well as cases in which a suspect was booked.

Daniel Raya Bueno, 33, of Gustine, was arrested June 9 on a felony charge of making threats with the intent to terrorize and a misdemeanor charge of willful cruelty/child endangerment.

A 15-year-old Gustine male was arrested June 11 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

A 17-year-old Gusitne male was arrested June 12 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Juan Madrigal, 47, of Gustine, was arrested June 13 on misdemeanor charges of driving without a license and providing a false ID to an officer.

Laureano Araiza, 18, of Gustine, was arrested June 14 on a misdemeanor charge of violating a court order.

Eduardo Banuelos, 32, of Los Banos, was arrested June 14 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended license.

Activity report

Gustine police received 66 calls for service, reported 105 officer-initiated incidents, handled 13 cases, made eight arrests and issued two traffic citations from June 9-15, according to the department’s activity report.

Weekly arrest and incident reports are provided by the Newman and Gustine police departments. Charges may have been dropped as of press time. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty.
