Felony charges

Newman police said a local woman faces felony charges after allegedly leaving her five children unattended.

Police said the children ranged in age from 4 to 9.

According to police reports, the oldest went to a neighbor’s door Thursday and reported that the children had been left unattended the previous night.

The neighbor fed and cared for the children and took the four of school age to school on Friday, police said. Police said officials learned of the situation that day and launched an investigation which led to the arrest of the children’s mother, 38-year-old Jennifer M. Ramirez, on five felony counts of child endangerment.

Larceny

Police said an Apple laptop was reported stolen Dec. 3 from an unlocked vehicle in the 900 block of Haycastle Court. The loss was estimated at $250.

Vehicle theft

Newman police said a 2012 Can-Am Spider was reported stolen Dec. 7 from the 700 block of Fig Lane. The vehicle had not been recovered as of Tuesday.

Arrests

The following were among additional arrests reported by Newman police. The arrest report includes incidents in which an individual was released on citation as well as cases in which a suspect was booked.

Jaime Garcia Aguilar, 45, of Newman, was arrested Dec. 5 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended or revoked license.

Arturo Barajas, 33, of Newman, was arrested Dec. 5 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Jose D. DeLaCruz, 36, of Newman, was arrested Dec. 5 on a felony charge of possession of metal knuckles and misdemeanor charges of possession of large-capacity magazines and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Rance N. Cooke Jr., 63, of Newman, was arrested Dec. 6 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a license suspended for DUI.

Activity report

Newman police received 60 calls for service, reported 80 officer-initiated incidents, handled 25 cases, made 11 arrests, issued 11 traffic citations and wrote three parking tickets from Dec. 3-8, according to the department’s activity report.

GUSTINE POLICE

Vehicle theft

Gustine police said a 2005 Chrysler sedan was reported stolen Dec. 3 from the 600 block of Third Avenue. The vehicle had not been recovered as of Tuesday morning.

Residential burglary

Police said $7,000 was reported stolen Dec. 5 in a residential burglary in the 400 block of East Avenue.

Burglary

Authorities said a set of four Chevrolet wheels and tires and two bicycles were reported stolen Dec. 6 from the 100 block of North Avenue. The loss was estimated at $500.

Boat stolen

An aluminum boat and trailer were reported stolen Dec. 5 from the 1000 block of Bonta, police reported.

Vandalism

Police said tires on a Dodge Ram truck parked in the 600 block of Wallis were slashed in an incident reported Dec. 4. The loss was estimated at $700.

Vehicle burglary

Authorities said a stereo was reported stolen Dec. 6 from a vehicle in the 200 block of First Street. The loss was estimated at $280.

Activity report

Gustine police received 79 calls for service, reported 145 officer-initiated incidents, handled 15 cases, made one arrest, issued one traffic citation and wrote 27 parking tickets from Dec. 2-9, according to the department’s activity report.
