Newman police said a number of vandalism incidents in which vehicles damaged by a bb gun were recently reported.
Eight vehicles were damaged in vandalism incidents in the 2000 block of Yosemite Park, the 2200 block of Park Circle and 1600 block of Sandy Creek. An officer responding to a Feb. 8 report of a damaged vehicle subsequently discovered the additional damage. In each case, the damage involved vehicle windows.
A pickup in the 1300 block of Stephens Avenue was damaged in an incident reported Feb. 3. The damage involved a tailgate damage with chipped paint and a dent. No damage estimate was listed.
The window of a vehicle parked in the 1200 block of R Street was shot out in an incident reported Feb. 4. The damage was estimated at $150.
Police said a vacant home in the 1300 block of P Street was broken into in an incident reported Feb. 5. Boxes were rifled through but nothing appeared to be missing, police said.
Police said a 1992 Honda Accord was reported stolen Feb. 7 from the 2000 block of Prince Street. The vehicle was recovered later the same day by the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department. It was not damaged. The vehicle had previously been stolen Jan. 26, police said.
The following were among arrests reported by Newman police from Feb. 3-9. The arrest report includes incidents in which an individual was released on citation as well as cases in which a suspect was booked.
Jose Higareda Jr., 37, of Newman, was arrested Feb. 3 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended or revoked license.
Rene Mendoza Rosas, 50, of Stevinson, was arrested Feb. 3 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.
Amanda G. Baragan, 25, of Tracy, was arrested Feb. 5 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.
Olivo H. Parra, 38, of Newman, was arrested Feb. 6 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.
Jesus M. Sodia Jr., 36, of Newman, was arrested Feb. 8 on a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance.
A 17-year-old Newman male was arrested Feb. 8 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.
Eduardo L. Parra, 28, of Newman, was arrested Feb. 9 on a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance.
Newman police received 113 calls for service, reported 68 officer-initiated incidents, handled 28 cases, made 13 arrests, issued 10 traffic citations and wrote two parking tickets from Feb. 3-9, according to the department’s activity report.
