Stolen vehicles

Newman police said two vehicles were reported stolen last week.

A 2017 Hyundai Accent was reported stolen Sept. 16 from the 600 block of Fig Lane. The vehicle was recovered the same day by the Merced County Sheriff’s Office. It had been burned, police reported.

A 1995 Ford Ranger was reported stolen Sept. 18 from the 700 block of Gibralter Lane. The vehicle was recovered Sept. 19 by the Merced County Sheriff’s Office. It had been stripped slightly, police said.

Burglary

Newman police said a mountain bike valued at $500 was reported stolen Sept. 18 from a storage unit.

Larceny

Police said a tile saw valued at $800 was reported stolen Sept. 16 from a pickup in the 2200 block of Grand Canyon. Authorities said a witness reported seeing a gray Mitsubishi four-door sedan stop next to the victim’s pickup truck and a passenger emerge to take an item from the bed of the truck.

Felony charge

Police said a 15-year-old Newman male was arrested Sept. 16 on a felony charge of attempted assault with a deadly weapon following an incident which occurred during a family argument. According to police reports, the juvenile raised a knife he was putting away toward a family member during the argument. A family member was able to take the knife away, police reported. The juvenile was also arrested on a misdemeanor charge of exhibiting a deadly weapon other than a firearm.

Vehicle stop leads to arrest

A 16-year-old Gustine male was found to be in possession of a powdery substance and numerous pills believed to be Xanax and Ecstasy following a Sept. 19 traffic stop, police reported. Authorities said the juvenile was arrested on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance for sale and misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Arrest report

The following were among additional arrests reported by Newman police from Sept. 14-20. The arrest report includes incidents in which an individual was released on citation as well as cases in which a suspect was booked.

A 43-year-old Newman male was arrested Sept. 18 on a felony domestic violence charge.

Emmanuel S. Dunerway, 29, of Patterson, was arrested Sept. 19 on misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without a license.

Evelyn G. Dennett, 57, of Newman, was arrested Sept. 20 on misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and driving on a suspended license.

Anthony Gonzalez, 21, of Newman, was arrested Sept. 20 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended license.

Activity report

Newman police received 96 calls for service, reported 47 officer-initiated incidents, handled 21 cases, made six arrests, issued two traffic tickets and wrote 10 parking tickets from Sept. 14-20, according to the department’s activity report. 

GUSTINE POLICE

Burglary

Gustine police said a resident in the Sun Valley Apartments advised police on Sept. 21 that somebody had taken the air conditioning unit and replaced it with a different unit.

Arrests

The following were among arrests reported by Gustine police from Sept. 15-21. The arrest report includes incidents in which an individual was released on citation as well as cases in which a suspect was booked.

Francisco C. Astorga, 28, of San Jose, was arrested Sept. 15 on misdemeanor charges of shoplifting and disorderly conduct while under the influence of alcohol.

Ricardo Moya, 18, of Gustine, was arrested Sept. 18 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Ramon F. Lopez Alduenda, 25, of Livingston was arrested Sept. 18 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

John E. Muir Jr., 31, of Gustine, was arrested Sept. 18 on a misdemeanor charge of violating a court order.

Boyd D. Fipps, 40, of Los Banos, was arrested Sept. 19 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Robert Arroyo, 56, of Merced, was arrested Sept. 19 on a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Juan Chavez Escamilla, 29, of Gustine, was arrested Sept. 20 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Charlene L. Hayslip, 39, of Gustine, was arrested Sept. 21 on a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Oscar R. Moya, 22, of Gustine, was arrested Sept. 21 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Activity report

Gustine police received 73 calls for service, reported 121 officer-initiated incidents, handled 18 cases, made 10 arrests, issued one traffic citation and wrote two parking tickets from Sept. 15-21, according to the department’s activity report.
