Pursuit leads to arrest

Newman police reported that a 15-year-old Santa Nella juvenile was arrested May 29 after attempting to elude an officer in a pursuit which at times reached speeds of more than 100 miles an hour over rural roads.

According to police reports, an officer southbound on Canal School Road began following a vehicle from a distance after seeing it traveling at a high rate of speed. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop after following the vehicle to Whitworth Road, authorities reported, but the driver failed to yield and continued southbound on Whitworth before turning west onto Fentem and then south onto Schmidt Road before pulling over about a mile down Schmidt Road.

The male driver, who reportedly told police he didn’t stop because he was scared, was cited on a felony charge of eluding and a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license before being released to a parent.

Larceny cases

Newman police said two larceny cases were reported May 28.

Three commercial mats left behind Mountain Mike’s Pizza to dry were reported stolen. The loss was estimated at $300.

A 26-inch tricycle valued at $250 was reported stolen from the 2000 block of Prince Street.

Burglary

Police said a burglary was reported May 30 in the 700 block of Hardin Road. The victim reported that her residence had been entered without permission. It was not known if anything was taken, police said.

Arrests

The following were among additional arrests reported by Newman police from May 25-31. The arrest report includes incidents in which an individual was released on citation as well as cases in which a suspect was booked.

Eriberto Preciado, 38, of Newman, was arrested May 25 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended license.

Joshua L. Price, 38, of Newman, was arrested May 25 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended license.

Sonja A. Brown, 30, of Keyes, was arrested twice on May 25 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended license.

Jimmy DeLaCruz, 32, of Newman, was arrested May 25 on misdemeanor charges of drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jordan Garcia Vasquez, 21, of Turlock, was arrested May 25 on a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving.

Jesus M. Sodia Jr., 36, of Newman, was arrested May 26 on a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

A 50-year-old Newman male was arrested May 27 on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge.

Eduardo Gonzalez, 27, of Newman, was arrested May 27 on a misdemeanor DUI charge.

Stephanie R. Aguiniga, 32, of Modesto, was arrested May 28 on a misdemeanor drug possession charge.

Melesio Mata Corona, 19, of Modesto, was arrested May 28 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Misael E. Lopez, 27, of Newman, was arrested May 29 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a license suspended for DUI.

Valerie Morais, 52, of Gustine, was arrested May 29 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended license.

Antonio Hernandez Garcia, 24, of Newman, was arrested May 31 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Wilber A. Garcia, 28, of Turlock, was arrested May 31 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended license.

Activity report

Newman police received 74 calls for service, reported 71 officer-initiated incidents, handled 35 cases, made 19 arrests, wrote seven traffic citations and issued two parking tickets from May 25-31, according to the department’s activity report.

GUSTINE POLICE

Theft

Gustine police said a registration and cash were reported stolen May 29 from a vehicle in the 600 block of Laurel. No loss amount was reported.

Vandalism

Authorities said vandalism in the 400 block of Fifth Street and 500 block of Fourth Avenue was reported May 30. No damage amount was listed.

Arrests

The following are among arrests reported by Gustine police from May 26 through June 1. The arrest report includes incidents in which an individual was released on citation as well as cases in which a suspect was booked.

John E. Muir Jr., 30, of Gustine, was arrested May 26 on misdemeanor charges of violating a court order and obstructing a police officer.

Johnathan Milo, 26, of Gustine, was arrested May 28 on a misdemeanor charge of violating a court order.

Matthew Souza, 18, of Gustine, was arrested May 31 on a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving.

Jorge Gomez Jr., 19, of Gustine, was arrested May 31 on a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving.

Daniel Huerta, 20, of Gustine, was arrested June 1 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended license.

Activity report

Gustine police received 46 calls for service, reported 95 officer-initiated incidents, handled 14 cases, made five arrests, issued 13 traffic citations and wrote seven parking tickets from May 26 through June 1, according to the department’s activity report.
