Vehicle thefts

Newman police said three vehicle thefts were reported Friday morning, Oct. 19.

A 1996 Honda Accord reported stolen from the 1400 block of R Street was recovered by Los Banos Area CHP following a pursuit during the night which ended in a crash, according to police reports. One person was in custody, police reported.

A 1995 Honda Civic reported stolen from the 1600 block of Blue Spruce was also involved in a pursuit linked to the case regarding the Honda taken from R Street, police said. The driver was able to evade authorities. The vehicle was recovered undamaged on Oct. 22 by Ceres police.

A 1995 Honda Civic was reported stolen from the area of Fresno and R streets. The vehicle was recovered undamaged the same day by Ceres police, who took one person into custody, authorities reported.

Larceny cases

Newman police reported three recent larceny cases.

Unauthorized use of a credit card which had been left in a vehicle totaled $850 in a case reported Oct. 15.

Gasoline valued at $25 was reported stolen Oct. 16 from a vehicle in the 1600 block of Crevinson Court.

A backpack containing a school-issued Chromebook, cell phone and textbooks was reported stolen from in front of JJ Liquor on Oct. 19. The loss was estimated at $715.

Vandalism cases

Newman police said two vandalism incidents were reported last week.

A vehicle in the 1300 block of West Avenue was keyed in an incident reported Oct. 17. The damage was estimated at $1,500.

A restroom at Barrington Park was vandalized in an incident reported Oct. 17. The damage was estimated at $100.

Arrest report

The following were among arrests reported by Newman police from Oct. 15-21. The arrest report includes incidents in which individuals were released on citation as well as cases in which a suspect was booked.

Zeferino Camacho Ibarra, 51, of San Jose, was arrested Oct. 15 for driving without a license. The charge is a misdemeanor.

Jose Garcia Miranda, 39, of Crows Landing, was arrested Oct. 16 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a license which had been suspended or revoked.

Joytika S. Prasad, 25, of Newman, was arrested Oct. 18 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a license which had been suspended for DUI.

Mauricio Rosales, 21, of Newman, was arrested Oct. 18 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Elizabeth Rios, 29, of Modesto, was arrested Oct. 18 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended or revoked license.

Holly L. Davis, 35, of Newman, was arrested Oct. 19 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended or revoked license.

Jessica L. Hernandez, 33, of Newman, was arrested Oct. 19 for disobeying a court order. The charge is a misdemeanor.

Joselito L. Gonzalez, 31, of Crows Landing, was arrested Oct. 19 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended or revoked license.

Jacqueline Alvarez, 19, of Waterford, was arrested Oct. 20 on misdemeanor charges of driving without a license and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jose Hernandez Maldonado, 33, of Newman, was arrested Oct. 20 for driving without a license. The charge is a misdmeanor.

Jesus Morales Gallardo, 27, of Newman, was arrested Oct. 21 on a misdemeanor DUI charge.

Activity report

Newman police received 105 calls for service, reported 67 officer-initiated incidents, handled 36 cases, made 18 arrests, wrote 12 traffic tickets and issued 13 parking citations from Oct. 15-21, according to the department’s activity report.

Weekly arrest and incident reports are provided by the Newman and Gustine police departments. Charges may have been dropped as of press time. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty.
