Activity Report
The Newman Police Department received 59 calls for service and reported 112 officer-initiated calls for a total of 171 incidents between Oct. 28 to Nov. 3. There were 31 cases opened and 14 arrests were made. The department issued 11 traffic citations, four criminal citations, 15 parking citations and three vehicles were towed.
Theft
An enclosed trailer was reported stolen on Oct. 31 in the 1500 block of Main Street. Access to the trailer was gained by the suspect or suspects cutting the lock and chain on both the south and north gates, according to the police department.
The trailer is a 24-feet double axe utility trailer. It had approximately $50,000 worth of tools and sheet metal inside it.

Auto theft
A Yong F Vittoci Bullet motorcycle was reported stolen on Nov. 3 from the 1400 block of Main Street. The report was made on Nov. 3 but the theft is believed to have happened sometime between the night of Oct. 29 and the morning of Oct. 30. The motorcycle had been parked in front of a restaurant at the time.
Auto burglary
An iPhone and a catalytic converter were stolen from a 2016 Toyota Prius from the 1800 block of Great Basin on Oct. 28.
Auto burglary
A 2007 Ford F350 was broken into on Oct. 29 in the 500 block of Bonanza Drive. An estimated $1,500 in tools were stolen out of the truck.
Arrests
Maria Manzo, 33, of Newman was arrested on Oct. 28 for driving on a suspended license.
Cristian Maravilla Vega, 25, of Turlock was arrested on Oct. 28 for being an unlicensed driver.
Macario Chavez Jr., 32, of Gustine was arrested on Oct. 29 for a warrant.
Fernando Izarraras, 48, of Newman was arrested on Oct. 29 for possession of marijuana for sale, possession of more than one ounce of marijuana and selling, giving, or transporting marijuana.
An unnamed 41-year-old Newman man was arrested on Oct. 29 for domestic violence and making criminal threats.
Hortencia Tellez Mejia, 30, of Newman was arrested on Oct. 29 for being an unlicensed driver.
Jacqueline Vazquez, 23, of Patterson was arrested on Oct. 30 for a warrant.
Ramiro Rios, 32, of Newman was arrested on Oct. 31 for driving on a suspended license.
Paulo Gonzales Barboza, 39, of Newman was arrested on Nov. 1 for being an unlicensed driver.
Kiera Scheele, 21, of Modesto was arrested on Nov. 2 for driving on a license suspended for DUI.
Rafael Garcia, 37, of Newman was arrested on Nov. 2 for being an unlicensed driver.
Johnny Davis, 42, of Newman was arrested on Nov. 3 for a warrant.
Philip Hinojos, 66, from an unknown hometown, was arrested on Nov. 3 for a violation of a court order.
Dennie Haney, 51, of Patterson was arrested on Nov. 3 for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.

Activity Report
Collision
A collision was reported on Oct. 31 when a driver reportedly ran a stop sign at Grove and 6th avenues and struck another vehicle, causing it to roll over.
Auto burglary
A catalytic converter was stolen off a 2011 Chevrolet Cruz on Nov. 3. The vehicle had been parked in front of a home on Elm Avenue.
Assault and battery
A parent reported on Nov. 4 that her daughter was choked and punched by another student at an unnamed school the day prior.
Vandalism
An unknown suspect reportedly kicked holes in the wall at the Tropic Wash N Dry on South Avenue on Nov. 4. The reporting party said surveillance cameras might have an image of the suspect.
Arrests
Charlene Hayslip, 42, was arrested on Nov. 3 in the 400 block of 1st Avenue for battery and then on Nov. 5 in the 700 block of South Avenue for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance in jail and vandalism.
