Antonio Louis Verissimo of Newman passed away Monday, Jan. 6, at his residence.
He was 88.
Mr. Verissimo was born in St. Jorge, Azores. He was a resident of Newman for 51 years.
He was a dairyman for 60 years, and a pioneer in bull and oxen training.
Mr. Verissimo was a parishioner at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Newman. He belonged to the FDES and Portuguese Fraternal Society of America, and was involved in local festas.
Mr. Verissimo is survived by his wife, Constania Verissimo of Newman; three sons, David Verissimo and Joe Verissimo, both of Newman, and Tony Verissimo of Turlock; two daughters, Mary Lou Verissimo and Linda Verissimo, both of Newman; two sisters, Diolinda Bento of Gustine and Rosa Amaral of Portugal; and eight grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 9-10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13, at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church, followed by a rosary and mass of Christian burial.
Interment will follow in Hills Ferry Cemetery.
