Carrie Rachel Jones, 89, of Ceres passed away Tuesday, June 1 at Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson.

Mrs. Jones, known to many as “Rachel,” was born in Gillham, Ark. She left Arkansas in 1966 with her husband and six children, eventually settling in Newman where she lived for for over 30 years.

The last several years she resided with her daughters, Linda and Barbara.

She was a homemaker who had a passion for jigsaw puzzles and word puzzles.

Mrs. Jones was an animal lover who enjoyed time spent caring for many dogs and cats over the years.

Mrs. Jones is survived by her sons, Jerry Jones (Dianne) of Nevada and Jimmy Jones (Jenice) of Tracy; her daughters, Caroln Gille (Roy) of Pioneer, Doris Jones of Oklahoma, Linda Silveira of Ceres and Barbara Gatto (Robert) of Los Banos; a brother, James Davis of Arkansas; eight grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alford Jones; twin infant sons; son-in-law Larry Silveira;  two brothers, Charles Davis and George Davis; and a sister, Mary Jane Marlow.

Graveside services were held Monday, June 7, in Hills Ferry Cemetery, Newman.
