Domingos Avelar of Newman passed away Sunday, April 21, at San Luis Care Center in Newman.
He was 85.
Mr. Avelar was born in St. Jorge, the Azores. He lived in Newman for 46 years.
Mr. Avelar was a farmer for Gallo Wines. He was a past president of the Newman FDES.
He is survived by his wife, Leonor Avelar of Newman; two sons, Manuel Avelar of Newman and John Avelar of Bakersfield; three daughters, Maria Duarte of Placerville, Rosie Silva of Sonora and Theresa Souza of North Carolina; two sisters, Anna Cunha of Gustine and Rosa Parreira of Watsonville; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two children, Jose Avelar and Fatima Avelar.
Services will be held Friday, May 3, at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Newman. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., followed by a rosary and mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Hills Ferry Cemetery.
