To the editor:

The past month has been a very busy one in our community. On behalf of three organizations, I would like to express our sincere thanks for all the community support during several events and fund-raisers.

The Newman Lions Club members would like to thank those who supported us with our fund-raisers, particularly our annual linguica dinner held Oct. 8. With your support we in turn can support area residents in need. Please accept our heartfelt thanks for supporting this event. Please consider joining this small group as we help the community. Our meetings are the first Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the community meeting room behind the police station.

In addition, the Newman Fire Auxiliary would like to thank the community for supporting its annual tri-tip dinner held Oct. 20. This event helps us have the funds to support our firefighters and educate the community through events such as the SafeSitter babysitting clinic held each summer and the fire safety and prevention programs held each October at local schools. Our group meets the last Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the Newman fire station. We are always looking for new members.

Finally, The Newman Partnership, an organization made up of representatives of local clubs/organizations, was overwhelmed by the community participation in its first-ever Newman Trunk-or-Treat. We were so pleased by the response of the community, either as a trunk or booth participant or as a community member bringing the children to this event. It is our effort to keep the children safe in one locale. We on the committee (and many participants) are already planning next year’s second annual trunk-or-treat event.  For information about joining the Newman Partnership, please contact me at 681-5220 or Chanelle Raboteau at 556-7461.

Once again, the members of these three organizations value our community’s participation more than you can know.
