During my extended visit to California, I was blissfully unaware of what was happening in Washington, D.C. most days, preferring to check in on social media for a recap of all the highlights and lowlights happening in The Swamp.
But after making it back home to Tennessee, and settling back into our normal routine I decided to wade back into the political cesspool, just in time for the absolute freakout happening over President Trump’s phone call with the president of Ukraine.
Once again, Americans must be drug along into impeachment theatre, and this time the Democrats really mean it.
Well, not really, really... since there have been no votes on parameters or rules and the impeachment framework was set when the Democrats took power back in 2018, just waiting for something to capitalize on.
The Democrats need to remember... when you only have a hammer most of the world begins to resemble a nail. Everything is impeachable because Donald J. Trump is, and continues to be, a bridge too far for the ruling class and the biggest threat to The Swamp’s power base.
I’m still laughing over the hissy fit thrown in 2016 when all Democrats could talk about was how badly The Donald would handle losing the election, and would upset the standards of democracy when he refused to concede. I’m guessing that was, in hindsight, another solid case of projection.
Have most of D.C. lost their collective minds? Wait, don’t tell me, I already know the answer, and I am concerned that we may need to start putting Xanax in the Potomac to counter the madness.
First and foremost, the fact that I need to point out that a Republican president governing the country according to stated GOP principles is not “acting outside the norms of presidential behavior” is in itself completely insane.
The president of the United States asking an ally to cooperate with the Attorney General of the United States in an open and ongoing investigation is not beyond the pale. Whether you like the investigation or not. Here’s a hint....a whole lot of people in D.C. are very worried, and neither political party has wrapped themselves in glory in this absolute debacle of a coup.
The House of Representatives, in their august wisdom, has decided that negating the votes of citizens, and calling for a do-over through some less than savory means, is the prudent course.
What could go wrong?
An therein lies the biggest problem. Those less than savory means. Why can Democrats traipse all across the planet, involving not just Five Eyes and the intelligence community in this debacle, in a quest for permanent electoral power? Not just Democrats, but more than a few Republicans as well. And yes, it’s all a pretty big deal.
Beyond investigations, and reports of wrongdoing with zero repercussions, it is past time for a true re-set. A return to law that treats all fairly and justly. One where noone is untouchable, where the right name, an honorific, Ivy League degrees or a padded resume doesn’t automatically get you $50,000-per-month jobs on energy company boards or a get-out-of-jail-free card.
It is time to move past partisan narratives that are only projection and craven power grabs that benefit personal and familial wealth for the connected, no matter what letter comes after the name.
And it’s beyond time for Americans to know exactly how far their leaders will fall in their unending quest for more.
I know I’m can’t be the only one who can hardly wait to see what interesting tidbits AG Barr and U.S. Attorney John Durham have been able to find. I have a feeling Barr’s trip to Italy was bountiful, and not just because of the pasta.
