The 2019 edition of the Mattos Newspapers Football Contest came to a close last week.
Top overall honors on the season went to Jim Vierra, who will collect $100 for his efforts.
Jake Avila claimed first-place honors in the final installment of the 11-week contest by correctly predicting the outcome of 19 of the 25 games on the contest form. He will collect $25. Second-place, and a check for $15, goes to Frank Rivas, who had 18 correct picks and through the tie-breaker process edged Sean Halloran. Halloran will collect $10 for his third-place finish.
Two other contestants, Cory Peters and Marcus Vierra, were one game out of the money with 17 correct predictions.
Jim Vierra finished with 22,040 points to claim first overall in the contest. He was followed by Marcus Vierra (21,995), Jim Tacheira (21,884), Gary Crawford (21,872), Mike Perry (21,710), Debbie Crawford (21,633), and Babe Silva (21,577) in the overall standings.
