#3 Mike Saaranzin

Mike Saaranzin rushing passed his opponents towards the end zone.

While the varsity Reds were unable to build momentum off of their opening score against Mariposa County, the Gustine junior varsity squad grabbed an early lead and refused to look back.

Only three minutes into the game, the Reds jumped out to an early lead with a touchdown. Just a minute later and after a Grizzlies turnover, the Reds scored again, increasing their lead to 14-0. After a defensive stop by the Reds, the offense went right back to work to get a third touchdown of the opening quarter, extending the lead to 21-0, a lead that would hold through halftime.

In the third quarter, the Grizzlies came out of halftime successfully executing a number of adjustments and finally broke through to get on the board with a touchdown, making it a 21-6 game.

But just as the Grizzlies thought they had a chance, the Reds ripped their hopes away as they scored a touchdown on the very next drive, making the score 30-6. The score would remain the same once the final horn sounded.

The JV Reds are now 3-1 on the season and stand in first place at 1-0 after the first week of Southern League play. They will look to keep their position at the top when they take on Denair later this week.
