Gustine opened play in the varsity Valerie Lugo Invitational girls basketball tournament on a winning note last Thursday.
The Lady Reds turned back Pacheco High 39-32 in their tournament opener.
An 11-point night by Cynthia Castaneda helped Gustine secure the victory. Tianah Vitorino put up seven points, Anezza Rodriguez netted six, Ashley Lomeli scored five, Violette Terriquez had four points and M.J. Haro and Alexis Barnett each picked up three points on the night.
Madera 63, GHS 23
The Lady Reds were unable to keep pace with Madera in second-round play Friday. Barnett paced Gustine with six points. Castaneda netted five, Terriquez scored four, Rodriguez and Vitorino each were in the book with three points and Lomeli scored two.
Los Banos 73, GHS 39
The Lady Reds fell to the host Tigers in final-round play Saturday.
Lomeli and Castaneda each finished in double figures with 10 points. Vitorino netted eight, Haro put up seven and Magali Macias added four points.
Pacheco 47, GHS 36
Gustine faced Pacheco early in the week and came up short against the Panthers. Lomeli finished with nine points to lead Gustine, Castaneda scored eight, Barnett finished with five, Vitorino and Macias each had four points on the night and Lalanie Brace, Haro and Terriquez rounded out the scoring with two points each.
