Orestimba’s Mia Garcia slides safely into second base against Hilmar.

Orestimba opened its softball season in impressive fashion Friday, sending visiting Hilmar home on the short side of a 12-1 final score.

The Lady Warriors spotted the Yellowjackets a run in the top of the first, but it was all Orestimba from that point.

Deborah Torres tied the game in the bottom of the first with the first of her two home runs, and Orestimba went on to plate four runs in the inning to take control. A two-run single by Ashley Taft put the Lady Warriors ahead. Taft later scored on a passed ball to make it a 4-1 game.

Orestimba plated four more in the second without the benefit of a hit, taking advantage of four walks and Hilmar errors.

The Lady Warriors kept up the pressure with two runs in the third inning. Shiloh Croffoot doubled in the first run of the inning, and Torres added her second homer in three innings to make it a 10-1 game.

Orestimba finished the scoring in the fifth when Vasquez delivered a two-run double to end the abbreviated game.

Torres, Vasuez and Taft each drove in two runs.

Torres finished with two hits. Croffoot, Vasquez, Taft and Ivory Avila each had one hit.

Haylee Medeiros scattered four hits over five innings. She struck out four and issued just one walk.
