Orestimba pitcher Guillermo Navarro delivers to a Davis hitter in varsity non-league play last week.

Orestimba scored runs in bunches in a varsity baseball win over Johnansen High last Monday.

The Warriors had the Vikings on the ropes before a Johansen hitter ever stepped to the plate. The West Siders plated seven runs in the first and went on to a 15-5 victory in six innings.

The Vikings were nearly able to minimize the damage in the opening frame, as Johansen had recorded two outs while just one run was in for Orestimba. But seven consecutive hitters reached base on singles or errors as the Warriors built their big early lead. That string included base hits by Jose Morales, Tryston Martens, Guillermo Navarro and Matthew Martins (his second hit of the inning).

The Warriors added a run in the second when Ethan Medeiros doubled and scored on an error.

Orestimba struck again in the third when Drake Perez singled and eventually scored. After scoring two runs in the fourth, Orestimba put up four in the sixth. Base hits by Martens, Martins and Xavier Avila helped fuel that inning.

Martins collected three of Orestimba’s 13 hits on the day and drove in two runs.

Avila, Morales and Martens each finished with three hits.

Winning pitcher Julian Lemus helped his cause by driving in three runs.

Lemus scattered five hits and walked two in five innings of work. He yielded five runs, only two of which were earned.

Auston Martens threw a perfect inning in relief to close out the game.
