One bad inning proved to be Orestimba’s downfall in the Lady Warriors’ only game last week.
Host Waterford erased a two-run deficit by striking for five runs in the fifth, and went on to defeat the Lady Warriors 5-3 last Tuesday.
The Lady Warriors, who saw a bases-loaded opportunity go by the wayside without scoring in the first, got on the board in the fourth when Ashley Taft delivered a two-run double. Haylee Medeiros, who had walked, and Victoria Vasquez, who had singled.
The Wildcats answered back in the fifth. After a rocky start to the inning, which saw the first two Wildcats reach base via errors, Orestimba was nonetheless one out away from escaping without damage. But the West Siders could not get off the field, as Waterford came up with a series of key hits.
Orestimba got one run back in the seventh, when Liliana Larios reached base on an error and eventually scored on a two-out single by Anakaren Jimenez, but could pull no closer.
Jimenez, Deborah Torres, Vasquez, Taft and Ciaira Lopes hit safely for the West Siders.
The loss dropped Orestimba to 6-6 in Southern League play with two games remaining and hurt the Lady Warriors’ playoff prospects as they fell behind fourth-place Mariposa in the race for the circuit’s final post-season berth.
Orestimba wrapped up the regular season earlier this week. The Lady Warriors hosted Ripon Christian Tuesday and visited rival Gustine Wednesday in the regular season finale Wednesday.
