Gustine second baseman Amanda Oliveira makes the catch on an infield pop-up against Ripon Christian as she and shortstop Stacey Oliveira converge on the play.

Gustine dropped contests to Delhi and Ripon Christian last week as the Southern League softball season continued.

Gustine opened the week in Delhi, where the Hawks posted an 8-3 decision last Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Reds started on a strong note, when Cassidy Kuden singled to lead off the game, stole second and then scored on a Kat Davis double.

But trouble quickly struck for the West Siders, as Delhi parlayed seven free passes into four runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead.

Delhi stretched its lead to 6-2 after four, but Kuden got the Lady Reds back into the game in the top of the fifth with a two-run homer. Gustine had the opportunity to make it a bigger inning, loading the bases after Kuden’s blast with just one out, but was unable to capitalize further.

Gustine outhit the Reds 10-3 but gave up 19 walks on the afternoon.

Cassidy Kuden collected three of Gustine’s 10 hits on the day. Ryanne Kuden and Davis each had two hits for the Lady Reds.

Ripon Christian 15, GHS 3

Visiting Ripon Christian put up six runs in the top of the first and went on to defeat Gustine in six innings Thursday afternoon.

Doubles by Cassidy Kuden, Davis and Lalanie Brace produced two Gustine runs in the bottom of the fourth.

The Lady Reds added their final run in the sixth when Cassidy Kuden walked and circled the bases, eventually scoring on a ground ball.
