Orestimba’s R.J. Garcia earned a second-place finish in the Southern League men’s singles tournament last week to punch his ticket to the post-season.
Garcia will open play today (Thursday) in the section tournament.
The Warriors also qualified for the team tournament by virtue of their second-place finish in the regular league season. Orestimba opened the tournament Wednesday against Riverbank.
A solid run in the league finals sent Garcia to the playoffs.
He defeated a Delhi opponent 6-4, 6-2 in the opening round, then dispatched a Denair opponent 6-0, 6 -1. Garcia advanced to the championship match with a 6-3, 6-1 decision against a second Delhi opponent. He dropped a 2-6, 5-7 decision to another Delhi opponent in the title match.
Abraham Gutierrez and Joshua Hurlock also competed for Orestimba in the men’s singles tournament. Gutierrez won his first two matches, defeating a Delhi player 6-2, 6-1 and topping a Ripon Christian opponent 6-0, 6-4 before falling to a Delhi foe 6-4, 0-6, 3-10.
Hurlock dropped a 2-6, 2-6 decision to a Delhi player in the first round.
Three Orestimba players competed in the women’s singles.
Rylee Garcia prevailed 7-6, (7-4), 6-0 over a Delhi player in the opening round and defeated a Waterford opponent 6-2, 6-2 before dropping a 3-6, 3-6 decision to a Delhi opponent.
Madison Cabral also posted two victories. She defeated a Denair player 6-0, 6-1 and won 6-4, 3-6, 10-3 against a Delhi player before dropping a 1-6, 2-6 decision to a Waterford opponent.
Alysha Galotta dropped an 0-6, 0-6 decision to a Denair player.
Three Orestimba teams competed in men’s doubles.
Hurlock and Emmanuel Segundo won their opener 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 against Ripon Christian opponents.
They lost 3-6, 1-6 to a Delhi dual in second round play.
Gutierrez and Eric Rodriguez posted a 6-1, 6-0 first-round win over a Delhi duo and then defeated a Ripon Christian team 6-2, 6-1 before dropping a 1-6, 5-7 decision to Delhi.
Zach Wooles and Joel Ramirez came up on the short side of a 1-6, 2-6 final score against Waterford opponents.
Galotta and Sarahi Mares defeated a Ripon Christian duo 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) in first-round play before losing to a Delhi team by a 2-6, 1-6 final.

Ivan Diaz and Yahira Romero fell to a Denair team 3-6, 7-6 (10-8), 11-13 in a closely-contested first-round match.
Kevin Lopez and Maxwelle Tartaglia suffered an 0-6, 0-6 setback against a Delhi doubles team.
After a first-round bye, Eric Perkins and Marina Freitas defeated a Ripon Christian team 6-0, 6-0 before falling to Delhi 6-3, 0-6, 2-10.
