Gustine Varsity Boys Basketball
Gustine’s varsity boys basketball team squeezed out a victory over the Denair Coyotes in a conference game on Friday in Denair. The Reds won by a score of 54-44.
The Reds outscored Denair through the first three quarters — 17-9, 11-9 and 17-16. The fourth quarter saw Gustine score nine to Denair’s 10 points.
It was the second straight win for the Reds, who tamed the Delhi Hawks, 69-53 in a home conference game on Jan. 11.
Junior Danny Quezada was named the Player of the Game by MaxPreps in the match up against Delhi. He scored 23 points in the game.
The Reds are now 3-6 overall and 3-0 in league. They are sitting in the third spot in the Southern League.
The team will play Waterford at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Waterford and then at Orestimba at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Orestimba Varsity Boys Soccer
The Orestimba varsity boys soccer team is sitting atop the Southern league after beating Delhi 2-0 on Jan. 6.
The Warriors’ two goals were scored by sophomore Angel Ibarra and senior Rafael Sanchez. Senior Jason Franco and sophomore Alfredo Figueroa each were credited with an assist.
The team is 9-6-1 overall and 3-1 in league. They next play Gustine in Gustine at 5 p.m. Friday.
Orestimba JV Boys Soccer
The Orestimba junior varsity boys soccer squad lost to the Delhi Hawks 3-2 on Jan. 6.
The team is now 1-2 in league and 4-4-2 overall.
The next game will be in Gustine at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
Gustine JV Boys Basketball
The Gustine JV boys basketball team took a 35-30 loss to the Denair Coyotes in an away conference match up on Friday.
Prior to that, the Reds won their home conference game against Delhi on Jan. 11 by a score of 66-22.
Sophomores Jake Campbell and Matthew Fernandez led in scoring with 17 points apiece in the Delhi victory.
The team is now 3-5 overall and 2-1 in league.
The team next plays Waterford at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in Waterford, followed by a 5:30 p.m. games against Orestimba in Newman.
Gustine Varsity Girls Basketball
The Gustine varsity girls basketball team earned a decisive win over the Denair Coyotes, 52-21 in a home conference game on Jan. 12.
The Gustine girls outscored the Coyotes every quarter — 17-2, 10-9, 9-5 and 16-5.
This was the second victory that was in double digits for the Reds. They defeated Delhi 51-15 in an away conference game on Jan. 11.
The Gustine varsity squad is now 10-3 overall and 3-0 in league and are in second place in the Southern league.
Orestimba JV Boys Basketball
The Orestimba junior varsity boys basketball team now has two league victories after scratching out a win over Waterford 36-32 on Jan. 13.
The team is 3-3 overall and 2-0 in league.
Orestimba outscored Waterford 16-6 in the first quarter and kept it close in the second. Waterford started to pull away in the third, outscoring Orestimba 14-7, but a tight fourth brought Orestimba back for the victory.
The JV squad takes on Gustine at 5:30 p.m. Friday at home.
