Gustine fell to Southern League softball foes Waterford and Mariposa last week in a tough pair of games for the Lady Reds.
Mariposa wrapped up the week with a 10-0 win over host Gustine Thursday.
A five-run first inning set the tone for the Grizzlies.
Gustine had its opportunities to break through, putting runners in scoring position in three different innings, but the Lady Reds were unable to capitalize.
Cassidy Kuden had two of Gustine’s five hits on the afternoon. Kat Davis, Viviana DeLaCruz and Stacey Oliveira also hit safely for the Lady Reds in the six-inning contest.
Waterford 17, GHS 2
Gustine started on a positive note but quickly saw the host Wildcats take over last Tuesday.
The Lady Reds took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
Kuden led off the game with a single and eventually scored on a passed ball. Davis reached base on a walk and eventually scored on an error.
But that would prove to be the extend of the offense for the West Siders, and Waterford wasted little time taking control.
The Wildcats took advantage of four fielding errors and three walks to put up seven runs in their half of the first.
A nine-run fourth punctuated the Wildcats’ victory.
Kuden had two hits for Gustine. Davis also hit safely for the Lady Reds.
