Orestimba picked up a crucial Southern League victory last Wednesday behind a complete game shutout from senior pitcher Alex Diaz.

The Warriors kept their hold on fourth place in the league standings - and the league’s final playoff berth - with a 9-0 win over visiting Denair.

The Warriors, after struggling at the plate through two innings, found their stride in the third to break through with three runs. Base hits by Julian Lemus, Jacob Bettencourt, Jacob Dominguez and Ethan Medeiros produced those runs.

Orestimba struck for three more in the fourth to pull away. A base hit by Jose Morales helped get that inning started.

Orestimba added one in the fifth and two more in the sixth to close out the scoring.

The Warriors got contributions from across their lineup. Dominguez, with a pair of singles, was the only Warrior with multiple hits.

Denair 4, OHS 2

A four-run Denair fourth proved to be Orestimba’s downfall last Monday. The Warriors had the opportunity to get off the field with minimal damage in the decisive inning, but four consecutive batters reached base with two out as the Coyotes turned a one-run frame into a four-run outburst.

The Warriors had built a 2-0 lead with single runs in the second and third innings.

Medeiros singled and scored in the second to open the scoring.

Auston Martens singled and scored in the third.

Opportunities were few and far between for the West Siders from that point on. Orestimba managed just two base runners over the final four innings, neither of whom advanced past first.

Medeiros and Xavier Avila had the only hits of the day for the Warriors.

The split left the Warriors with a 6-4 Southern League record.
