Coming off two huge wins against the Waterford Wildcats and Big Valley Christian Lions in combined scores of 16-2 between the two games, the Gustine Reds (3-0) continued their winning ways into the New Year, now on a four game winning streak.

To kick off their week the Reds had a road game match up against the Bulldogs from Le Grand (1-1) where they were able to out score their opponent 4-0 in the first half to secure a 6-2 victory in their second Southern Athletic League game.

The Reds came out firing right away, scoring four goals in the first half, with a hat trick performance from forward  Alan Noguez and a single goal from Hugo Mancilla to guide the Reds into a comfortable lead.

At the start of the second half it was a back and forth game with the Bulldogs and Reds returning blows to one another. The Bulldogs found themselves scoring two goals but were unable to stop the pressure of the Reds entering into their territory and scoring two goals for themselves and taking the 6-2 win.

Giovanni Padilla and Anthony Corrales were the other key players, scoring one goal each in the win.

Corrales and Omar Martinez contributed on goals with two assists each.

In their second match up of the week the Reds faced off against the visiting Ripon Christian Knights (0-2-1), who came off a 1-1 tie game against the Orestimba Warriors earlier in the week, but were no match for the Gustine Reds taking a 4-0 loss.

The scoring began just 15 minutes into the game when Corrales split the defense and came up with his first goal of the game. He then found himself in open field once again with an assist from teammate Padilla and that goal resulted in a 2-0 lead.

The Reds weren’t finished with their first half scoring just yet and came up with a goal from Noguez just before the end of the half.

Coming back from the half the Reds continued their momentum and utilized a stonewall defense to shut out the Knights. The team scored their final goal of the game with a one-two combo punch from Noguez’s assist to Padilla, to end the game in a 4-0 shut out.

Coming up next week the Reds will have two road games facing off against the Mariposa Grizzlies and Delhi Hawks. Start times for both games will begin at 5 p.m.
