Gustine Youth Football

Gustine Youth Football’s varsity Redskins put on a dominating performance in their Trans Valley Youth Football League opener Saturday.

The varsity GYF Redskins made the long trip to Mariposa well worthwhile, handing their hosts a 39-6 setback. The West Siders got solid performances from across their roster. Zander Leyva led the offense with three touchdowns. Alex Gomez helped keep Mariposa’s offense in check by picking off three passes.

The first three games of the day had gone Mariposa’s way. Gustine fell 30-0 in junior novice play; suffered a 32-6 novice setback and came up on the short side of an 18-0 score in junior varsity action.

Newman co-ed volleyball

The Newman Recreation co-ed volleyball program will launch its 2019 leagues in September.

Tuesday and Thursday night leagues are offered, beginning Sept. 10.

The leagues are open to players 18 and older (must be out of high school).

Entry fee is $5 per player per league. Payment is required before participation is allowed.

Each league is limited to 12 teams. Registration is now open.

Adult softball league

The Gustine Recreation Department is hosting an adult softball fall league. Games will be played Monday and Wednesday nights, with a tentative start date of Sept. 9. Entry fee is $550 per team. The deadline for registration is Aug. 31.
