Gustine High’s girls golf team opened its season on a winning note recently.

The Lady Reds turned back Denair 225-252 Aug. 27 on the St. Stan’s links.

Megan Azevedo fired a 43 to lead Gustine. Ashlyn Alamo turned in a 58, Nia Kellum carded a 60, Emma Woods shot a 64, Kaitlyn Dores finished at 65 and Kailyn Medeiros came in at 73.

Gustine dropped a 230-292 decision to Livingston on Aug. 29. Alamo finished at 70 to lead the West Siders. Azevedo finished at 71, while Woods was a stroke back at 72. Kellum shot a 79, Medeiros came in at 81 and Dores carded an 85.

‘Drive for Education’ tournament

The 10th annual Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District “Drive for Education” will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, at Diablo Grande.

Proceeds from the tournament enhance the educational experience of Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District students.

Individual player fee is $90 and includes green fees, cart, range balls, snacks, drinks, lunch and prize drawings.

A variety of sponsorship and advertising packages are also available.

Newman co-ed volleyball

The Newman Recreation co-ed volleyball program will launch its 2019 leagues in September.

Tuesday and Thursday night leagues are offered, beginning Sept. 10.

The leagues are open to players 18 and older (must be out of high school).

Entry fee is $5 per player per league. Payment is required before participation is allowed.

Each league is limited to 12 teams. Registration is now open.
