Gustine dropped girls basketball decisions to Hilmar and Stone Ridge Christian last week.

The Reds were unable to keep pace with host Stone Ridge Christian in a 43-22 setback Thursday.

Alexis Gallichio led Gustine with seven points, Magaly Macias put up six, Mary Jane Haro was in the book with five points, Ashley Lomeli netted three and Allison Rowlett hit a free throw.

Earlier in the week Gustine fell to Hilmar by a 42-25 final score.

Haro accounted for 12 points to lead Gustine. Tianah Vitorino was on the score sheet with nine, and Lomeli chipped in offensively with four points.

OHS varsity boys basketball

Orestimba shook off a slow start to defeat host Riverbank Friday.

The Warriors trailed 14-5 after a quarter and 37-33 after three, but answered with a 24-11 fourth-quarter run to come home with a 57-48 victory.

Senior Auston Martens lit up the board for 23 points to lead Orestimba. Edwin Alvarez put up seven, Justin Hong was in the book with six, Joel Solano, Mitchell Pacheco and Devin Bettencourt each netted five, Jose Morales chipped in with four points and Jayden Vargas added two.

Earlier in the week, Hughson turned back the Warriors 47-39.

The Huskies led 17-12 at the half and 30-24 going into the final eight minutes.

Martens shouldered the scoring load for the Warriors, putting up 14 points on the night. Pacheo was on the score sheet with eight points, Alvarez contributed six, Solano scored four, Ramiro Ramos collected three points and Bettencourt and Morales added two points apiece.

Gustine dropped a 3-1 girls soccer decision to Delhi Friday, May 28. Leilanie Aguilar accounted for the Gustine goal.

Gustine fell to Hilmar by a 7-0 score in the Reds’ season finale last week.

Flag football camp

The City of Gustine Recreation Department and Gustine High football program are teaming up to offer a flag football camp July 13-16 on Joe Vierra field in Schmidt Park.

Clinics will be offered for pee wees (ages 3-5, 9-10 a.m., $35); juniors (ages 6-9, 9 a.m. to noon, $60); and seniors (ages 10-14, 9 a.m. to noon, $60).

Gustine High football coaches and players will conduct the sessions.

Space is limited. Registration deadline is July 9.

Tennis camp in Gustine

The City of Gustine Recreation Department and West Side Tennis Club will host a youth tennis camp June 21-23.

The camp is open to youth ages 8-18 and will meet from 9-11 a.m. daily at the Gustine Middle School tennis courts.

Registration is $25.

Newman youth soccer

Registration for the 2021 Newman youth soccer program is now open.

The co-ed program is open to players ages 5-16.

Registration continues through July 2. Fee is $50, with a $5 discount for each sibling.

A late registration period will be held July 5-9. Late registration fee is $60.

A $10 fee applies to players residing outside the Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District.

After July 9 a waiting list will be created.

Practices will begin in August. Games will be held Saturdays starting in September.

Volunteer coaches and assistant coaches are also needed.

Registration forms may be downloaded and printed from the City of Newman website. Registration is available weekdays from 2:30-6 p.m. at the Newman Youth Center, 831 Hardin Road.

All participants must bring a birth certificate to register.
