Orestimba’s varsity baseball Warriors dropped decisions to Pacheco and Hughson as the new season got under way last week.
The Warriors dropped a 10-4 decision to visiting Pacheco in their season opener Friday afternoon.
Pacheco scored in each of the first four innings to build a 6-2 lead at the midway point, and then put the game away with three runs in the seventh.
Orestimba scored a single run in the first when Auston Martens singled and came around to score, and plated another in the third when Martens laced his second hit of the day and eventually scored on an error.
The Warriors plated two more in the seventh, an inning which included base hits from Martens, Jose Morales, Julian Lemus and Joel Solano.
Lemus had a big day at the plate, collecting four of Orestimba’s 10 hits. Martens had two hits in the opener, while Morales, Ethan Medeiros, Solano and Xavier Avila each had one hit.
Nine Pacheco walks contributed to Orestimba’s downfall.
Hughson 10, OHS 1
For a second straight game, walks took a toll on the Warriors Saturday afternoon.
Orestimba was deadlocked at 1-all with the Huskies midway through the fifth, only to see Hughson take advantage of eight walks and two errors to put up nine runs in the bottom of the inning.
The game was a close pitcher’s duel up to that point. Freshman Warrior starter Guillermo Navarro held Hughson to one run through four strong innings, pitching into the fifth before Hughson put together its big frame against four OHS pitchers.
Orestimba had scored its only run in the top of the fifth, when Tryston Martens singled and eventually scored on a base hit by Auston Martens.
Morales was the only other Warrior to hit safely. He had a first-inning single.
