Gustine youth football heads to Super Bowl
For the Gustine Youth Redskins football program the junior novice team prevailed with a 27-20 victory over the Merced Wolverines. This win advances the team to the Super Bowl, which they will play at 9 a.m. Sunday at Patterson High School.
The WestSide Niners Junior varsity and varsity squads played in the second round of the playoffs in the TVYFL last Saturday evening.
The junior varsity Niners took a tough 42-12 loss to the Hilmar Packers.
The varsity team were led by Robby Corrella, Santiago Lopez, and Richie Ebert, who came up huge on a defensive stop at the goal line with 30 seconds left and prevented the Merced Wolverines’ offense from entering the endzone. The varsity squad came away with the win, 20-18.
The varsity Westside Niners have advanced to the Super Bowl and will play the Big Valley Sabers. The game will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday at Patterson High School.
