Newman Library announces December programs

The Newman Library has scheduled a series of community programs throughout December, offering activities for all ages.

Winter Ornament Decorating kicks off the month Monday, Dec. 1, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. The library will host Trading Card Game Night on Tuesdays, Dec. 2 and Dec. 16, from 5 to 7 p.m., and Lego Day on Thursdays, Dec. 4 and Dec. 18, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Teens can join a Dungeons and Dragons session Saturday, Dec. 6, from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by an All Ages Switch Party Monday, Dec. 8, from 2 to 3 p.m. A Teen Switch Party is set for Tuesday, Dec. 9, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Adults will have their own Dungeons and Dragons program Saturday, Dec. 14, from 2 to 4 p.m.

All events will be held at the Newman Library.

 

Gustine Historical Museum Welcomes Holiday Shoppers

The Gustine Historical Museum invites the community to explore local history during its open hours on Thursdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. Visitors can browse exhibits highlighting the region’s past and stop by the museum’s gift shop, which offers a wide selection of items including books, Christmas mugs, jewelry, puzzles, stickers, and children’s books and toys.

With affordable prices and family-friendly options, the shop is an ideal spot for kids to find thoughtful Christmas gifts for loved ones.

 

Light Up a Life marks 40th year with ceremonies in Turlock, Oakdale and Modesto

Friends of Community Hospice & Health Services will host the 40th annual Light Up a Life holiday tree-lighting ceremonies in Turlock, Oakdale and Modesto this December.

The events, long regarded as evenings of reflection, healing and hope, invite families and community members to honor loved ones. Personalized ornaments may be purchased as tributes, with proceeds supporting the mission of Community Hospice & Health Services.

The ceremonies are scheduled for Dec. 4 at Turlock Memorial Park & Funeral Home (reception 5:30 p.m., program 6 p.m.); Dec. 6 at Wood Park in Oakdale (program 6 p.m.); and Dec. 7 at Sutter Health Memorial Medical Center in Modesto (reception 4:30 p.m., program 5 p.m.).

Auxiliaries to Sell Poinsettias at Holiday Events

The VFW Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary will be selling poinsettias at two upcoming holiday events to support local veterans’ programs.

Shoppers can find the festive blooms at the Old Fashion Downtown Christmas in Gustine on Saturday, Nov. 29, and again at the Newman Tree Lighting on Saturday, Dec. 6. Each poinsettia is priced at $18.

Native Sons of the Golden West Dinner Meeting Set for Dec. 4

John C. Fremont Parlor #293, Native Sons of the Golden West, will hold its next dinner meeting on Thursday, Dec. 4, at the VFW Hall. Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by Bingo. Those wishing to play cards or visit are welcome to arrive at 5 p.m.

Members are asked to RSVP by Dec. 1 by email or phone at 209-918-1451 to ensure an accurate count. Guests are encouraged, as the Parlor is seeking new members to keep the organization strong.

Annual dues for 2026 will be $60, and dinners are expected to remain at $15. Please note there will be no meeting or dinner on Jan. 1, 2026, due to the holiday.

 

 

Holiday Market to Bring Festive Cheer to Patterson on Dec. 6

The Patterson Christmas Festival Holiday Market will take place Saturday, Dec. 6, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Firestation No. 1, located at 344 W. Las Palmas Ave. in Patterson.

Hosted by the Patterson-Westley Chamber of Commerce, the event will feature handmade gifts, boutique items, clothing, artwork, self-care products, confectioneries, and more. Attendees can enjoy free raffle drawings while supporting local artists and vendors.

West Side Theatre Foundation Seeks Volunteers for “Shine Crew”

The West Side Theatre Foundation is calling on community members to join its “Shine Crew,” a volunteer team dedicated to keeping the historic West Side Theatre in top condition. Volunteers are asked to donate just one hour of their time one to two Thursdays per month to help maintain the venue’s welcoming atmosphere.
