NEWMAN – Two races in two days.
That is what the Orestimba High cross-country teams did on Saturday and Friday. On Saturday, the Warriors competed at the Hughson Supercross Invitational.
“The run in Hughson the next morning was a shorter race with a mud pit in the middle,” said Orestimba head coach Scott Felber. “We talked about it in advance and the kids wanted to do both. The Saturday race was more of a fun thing. Some of them just ran together and did flips into the mud. Others ran it hard.”
For the Warrior boys, Joseph Garcia took 12th place with a time of 14 minutes, 56.46 seconds to earn a medal.
Three Orestimba runners placed, one in front of the other. Christoph Enriquez was 130th at 23:09.24, Diego Mendoza 131st at 23:29.23 and Hector Saavedra 132nd at 24:11.77.
For the girls, the Warriors’ Samantha De La Cruz finished in the top 20 as well, taking 20th place at 17:34.80. Marian Quevedo took 95th at 21:08.96 and Rosario Mendoza was 129th at 23:30.28.
Rough Rider Invitational
The Warriors were at Woodward Park on Friday, Oct. 17 to compete in the Rough Rider Invitational.
“The race on Friday was a normal 5K (3.1 miles),” Felber said.
De La Cruz shined in the women’s varsity small-school girls division, taking 40th place as she was clocked at 20:46.08. Imelda Beltran-Pelayo was 115th at 22:56.11.
For the varsity boys, Garcia was 99th at 17:49.28. Emmauel Garabito took 235th at 19:59.17, Erik Cerna came in at 322nd at 22:44.99 and Carlos Carranza was 337th at 24:46.47.
Three other Warriors who finished the race were Enriquez at 342nd at 27:10.56, Savir Galvan 343rd at 27:47.66 and Saavedra 344th at 28:25.61.
