GUSTINE — Students interested in joining the City of Gustine’s 2026 lifeguard team will have the chance to build their skills next month through a three‑day preparation workshop, followed by the city’s formal lifeguard certification course.
The Gustine Recreation Department announced that its Lifeguard Workshop will be held April 7–9 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Aquatics Center. The workshop is designed for students who want to become lifeguards but are unsure whether they meet the swimming requirements. Participants will receive guided practice to prepare for the physical standards needed to enter the certification program.
Those who successfully complete the workshop will be eligible to register for the city’s Lifeguard Certification Course, which runs April 10–12. The certification course includes an 18‑hour online pre‑course that must be completed within two weeks before the in‑person sessions. The in‑person schedule is:
- Friday, April 10: 6–9 p.m.
- Saturday, April 11: 9 a.m.–6 p.m.
- Sunday, April 12: 9 a.m.–6 p.m.
Attendance at all sessions is required to earn the two‑year certification. The course fee is $200, and all fees are nonrefundable.
Students who take the workshop but choose not to continue into the certification course will be charged a $50 workshop fee, according to the city.
Gustine officials said the city will be hiring lifeguards for the upcoming season, and applicants must hold a valid certification before applying.
Registration for both the workshop and certification course is available online or in person at 352 Fifth Street. For more information, residents may contact Aquatics Coordinator Tiffany Vitorino at 209‑854‑9411.
