NEWMAN — The Newman Historical Society is inviting the community to its annual Valentine’s Day Salad Luncheon, set for Feb. 13 at the Louie J. Newman Memorial Building. The event runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and serves as one of the society’s key fundraisers supporting the Newman Museum and its preservation work.
Tickets are $15 per person and must be purchased in advance. A limited number will be sold and take‑out orders are available with prior purchase. Tickets may be obtained by calling Glennis Kidder at 209‑862‑2725, Mary Vaz Moore at 209‑862‑3822 or Debbie Allan at 209‑862‑3571, or by visiting the Newman Museum during open hours.
The luncheon will include a door prize — with winners required to be present — along with opportunity tickets for additional gifts.
The Newman Museum, located at 1209 Main Street, is housed in the city’s historic Carnegie Library building, a Classical Revival structure completed in 1920 and one of the last of California’s original Carnegie libraries still standing. Operated by the Newman Historical Society since 1995, the museum preserves and displays artifacts, photographs and documents chronicling the community’s history.
Museum hours are 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, with additional visits available by appointment by calling Mary Vaz Moore or Debbie Allan. Admission is free.
Society volunteers say several displays will be updated in the coming months as part of ongoing efforts to refresh the museum’s exhibits. The museum gift area also offers jewelry, books, totes, pins and a limited‑quantity 30‑year anniversary T‑shirt — with only one XL remaining.
The Newman Historical Society encourages residents to attend the luncheon, support local history and enjoy a community tradition that helps sustain the museum’s operations year‑round.
