The Newman Police K9 Association is preparing for one of their most anticipated events.

Beginning at 5 p.m. on Sunday at 1357 R Street, the Newman Police K9 Association will have their annual crab benefit dinner, with proceeds going towards supporting the hard-working K9s of the Newman Police Department.

Tickets are limited. Entry to the crab feed can be purchased at Oasis Mini Mart, and during lobby hours at the Newman Police Department. Tickets costs will be $70 per person. But that will get you more than all-you-can-eat crab. Each ticket will enter a chance to win $500.

“I can’t even tell you how many people have said that. This is definitely hands down the best crab they’ve ever been to,” said Sgt. Ashley Williams and Newman Police K9 Association President.

The feast will be accompanied by a DJ, a gun auction and raffle drawings that will include prizes such as TVs, Blackstone grills, and many modern fun entertainment electronics. Then prizes for the young ones will be raffled off. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the event.

Then there will be dogs. Sgt. Williams hopes to have as many dogs as possible present at the event. From K9s in service to dogs in retirement. The K9 program supports the dogs in retirement and medical costs, the event is a reminder of the benefit the dogs do to protect the community. The program runs on a tight budget and Sgt. Williams is thankful for all the help.

“All of the people who help us out, it is all on a voluntary basis, so they’re a critical part of our success. We couldn’t do it without them,” said Sgt. Williams.
