FOLSOM, Calif – Two members of the Orestimba High track and field program competed at the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Finals at Prairie City Stadium on the Folsom High campus on Saturday.

Long-distance runners Samantha De La Cruz and Patricio Kearney represented the Warriors. But each fell short of earning a berth into the California Interscholastic Federation Track and Field Championships. The top four in each event advances to the state meet, which will be held at Veterans Memorial Stadium at Buchanan High of Clovis this Friday and Saturday.

De La Cruz, only a sophomore, took 16th place in the women’s varsity 1600 meters race with a time of 5 minutes, 18.20 seconds. Giselle Fernandez of Riverbank won the event, clocked at 4:50.10.

Kearney, a senior, ran in the men’s varsity 3200 meters, taking 13th place as he finished with a time of 9:30.75. Broen Holman of Sonora, which is part of the Trans-Valley League with Orestimba, won with a time of 8:59.01.

The Masters was a two-day event, which started on Friday with trials in most events and both trials and finals in some events. The finals in the bulk of the events were held on Saturday.
