Pickleball isn’t just growing in popularity—it’s building a community. And on May 31 that community will come together in Gustine not just to play, but to make a difference.
Daniel Gomes, the heart behind Pickleball for a Cause, has turned his love for the game into a powerful movement to support Valley Children’s Hospital. The inaugural tournament will be held at Gustine’s Harry P. Schmidt Park, bringing people of all ages, skill levels, and backgrounds together for a day of fun, purpose, and generosity. All proceeds from the event will directly benefit the hospital’s mission of providing world-class care for children and families across the Valley.
“This isn’t just about raising money,” Gomes shared. “It’s about building something meaningful—bringing people together and showing how one community can come together for another.”
From bounce houses and food vendors to live DJ entertainment and a silent auction, the event promises more than just a few friendly matches—it promises joy. There will be raffles, a photo booth, and even prizes for the most creatively dressed players. Every smile, every laugh, every game played is a step toward easing the burden for families fighting their hardest battles.
The final in-person registration will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on May 15 at the Gustine Tennis & Pickleball Court. Early interest has been strong, and with limited space in each division, spots are filling up fast.
Whether you’re picking up a paddle for the first time or you’ve played for years, you are invited to be part of something bigger. Registration is $50 per person, and all teams are guaranteed at least three games. Warm-ups begin at 8 a.m. on the day of the event, and spectators are welcome to enjoy the festivities and cheer on their community.
“We’ve seen so much support already,” Gomes said. “But there’s still time to join. Even if you don’t play, just showing up, helping out, or sharing the word can make a difference.”
Pickleball for a Cause is a reminder that we don’t need grand gestures to create change—just good people, coming together with open hearts.
As Gomes put it best: “Together, we can make a difference for Valley Children’s Hospital—one match at a time.”
